PROMPT REPAIR

How to Repair AI Video Prompts

Diagnose the failure and change one variable at a time

Rewriting the entire prompt changes many variables at once. Classify the failure first, preserve what already works, and edit only the responsible part.

USE THIS STRUCTUREClassify the failure → change one variable → preserve what works
30-SECOND SUMMARY
  1. 01Classify the failed result
  2. 02Change one variable per retry
  3. 03Preserve correct subject and camera details
01

Classify the failure into five groups

Classification narrows the edit. Keep a correct subject description and a camera move that already works.

  • Subject: identity, clothing, product appearance, or count changes.
  • Action: sequence, scale, direction, or endpoint fails.
  • Interaction: hands, props, contact points, or left-right direction are unclear.
  • Camera: shot size and camera movement conflict with subject motion.
  • Continuity: background, light, proportions, or space changes abruptly.
02

Problem one: the action is too broad

“An angry man picks up a cup” leaves the emotional scale, hand, pickup sequence, and endpoint undefined. Rewrite it as an observable sequence.

BEFOREEmotion and motion lack a process

An angry man picks up the cup on the table with a cinematic camera.

AFTERDefine emotional scale, hand, and endpoint

A middle-aged man sits at a table and suppresses his anger as his jaw tightens slightly. He looks down, reaches with his right hand, grips the handle of a white coffee cup, lifts it steadily, and holds it in front of his chest. Locked medium shot, restrained performance. Preserve natural fingers, handle, and cup structure.

03

Problem two: one shot carries too many goals

Running, looking back, jumping, and waving combined with a fast orbit and a changing environment create several motion paths. Keep the most important action and move the rest to later shots.

Ask whether a viewer can describe the primary action in one sentence.

Keep: the character runs forward and looks back once. Split or remove: jumping, waving, orbiting, and weather transformation.
04

Problem three: text conflicts with the reference

Adjust the source image or reduce the instruction. More constraint words cannot reliably reconcile contradictory visual conditions.

  • The image shows a frontal pose while the prompt asks to preserve a back view.
  • The two endpoint frames use incompatible lighting or room geometry.
  • The prompt adds a large object with no physical space in the frame.
  • The hands are hidden in the image while the prompt demands precise hand work.
05

Write a retry note before spending again

  • Which failure group describes the result?
  • What single part changes next?
  • Which correct details must remain?
  • After two repeated failures, should the reference or shot structure change?
